Grandvalira unveils the new skiing area of Encampadana in the Canillo sector with the opening of the Seig chairlift

Construction began in September and has taken into account the snowmaking throughout the area

In a widespread context of reduced ski kilometres due to lack of precipitation, Grandvalira Resorts maintains over 180 km of slopes

The Grandvalira station has premiered today the Encampadana area, a newly created skiing area that, with the installation of the Seig chairlift and three new red runs, provides the station with 5 new kilometres of slopes located in the Canillo sector. With this addition, Grandvalira now has a total of 215 km and 140 slopes for all levels, as well as 76 lifts. Thus, Grandvalira Resorts now has 308 km and remains the largest snow domain in Southern Europe and the Pyrenees.

The construction of the new area began in September and has recently been completed. True to Grandvalira Resorts' snow guarantee, the new area has also been equipped with a good snowmaking network with the installation of state-of-the-art snowmakers.

The project has utilized the four-seater chairlift removed from Port Negre, in Arinsal, to relocate it to this new location after undergoing a thorough review and update that significantly extended its lifespan. The chairlift is almost 800 m long and covers a vertical drop of 276 m. With the new name of Chairlift Seig, the three slopes have been traced around it and have been named Seig, La Font, and La Pala, expanding the skiing area of the Canillo sector and thus contributing to the revitalization of the sector. For now, the great work of the ground teams has allowed the La Pala slope, 2.5 km long, to open today.

More than 180 km of skiable terrain and forecast of new snowfall

In a context of snowfall shortage, the Grandvalira Resorts continue to offer a high number of skiable kilometres, the widest in the Pyrenees, with over 180 km of slopes currently, thanks to the extensive snowmaking network of the domains and the excellent work of the ground teams. Specifically, the Grandvalira station has 120 km of slopes with snow depths of up to 55 cm, while Pal Arinsal has about 40 km of slopes with similar snow depths. Ordino Arcalís, on the other hand, has 65% of the open domain and snow depths of up to 1 meter.

Despite the widespread scarcity of snowfall, the extensive snowmaking network of the domains and the work of the ground teams maintain good skiing conditions. Likewise, the forecasts for the coming days predict a drop in temperatures and more snowfall, which is expected to increase snow depths.
